Learning for the Summer Term

Our topic for the Summer Term will be the Wild West!  We are looking forward to a fun half term.

English
We will be:

  •          Reading  stories about Native Americans and cowboys.
·         Improving the way we start our sentences.
·         Thinking about characters - what do we know about them and how do we know this?
·         Writing from a character's point of view.
·         Making great word choices to improve our writing.
·         Planning and making notes,
·         Writing our own legends.
·         Changing our library books every Tuesday.
·         Continuing weekly guided reading sessions.
·         Continuing daily phonics practice.
·         Working on our reading and writing targets.

Maths
We will be:
  • Looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and using and applying the different strategies appropriate for the bigger numbers
  • Practising our times tables: 2x, 5x and 10x facts to be recalled automatically
  • Using number lines to support our addition and subtraction.
  • Working with simple fractions.
  • Solving problems by 'drawing it out'.
  • Finding right angles.
  • Telling the time in digital and analogue forms.
·       Working on basic number skills daily in '5 Minute Target Time'.

Science
We will be:
  • Concluding our work on investigations.
  • Working in our school garden, planting and growing.
Art & DT
We will be:
  • Making our own dreamcatchers.
  • Making Fandango Stew!

Music
We will be:
·         Using percussion
·         Thinking about rhythm

History
We will be:
  • Looking at significant historical Native Americans
  • Looking at the history of the Wild West
Geography
We will be:
  • Finding out where the Wild West is.
  • Looking at the terrain of the Wild West.
PE
We will be:
  • Swimming later on in the half term. (We will notify parents when swimming is due to commence).
  • Line dancing!
RE
We will be:
  • Writing an Apache blessing.
  • Looking at other religions.
Computing
We will be:
  • Developing our programming skills using Scratch.
PSHE
We will be:
·       Thinking about our Rights and Responsibilities.
·       Continuing to reinforce our new playground charter.
·        Thinking about loneliness.
