Who Came to Tea?

A super morning of writing in Year 2 today! 

Yesterday we read the story of the Tiger Who Came to Tea.  Today we thought who might visit our own house for tea. (We just loved Finley's Doris the Teapot)! 

We designed our characters and planned the mischief they would get up to.

Then we thought about what would make a good story and we practised writing a beginning altogether.

Then we wrote our own imaginative stories! We all worked so hard! 

Some of us managed to share our stories with the class.

We really enjoyed reading our stories out to others in our group when we had finished. It was great to hear what other children had to say about our writing. 

What a lot of writing! Mrs Turner and Mrs Peterson will be kept busy marking it all!

We had fun today high fiving our times tables! We are definitely getting speedier...

This Half Term's Learning

Our Topic for this half term is Something Silly!

English We will be:       ·         Reading silly stories!         ·         Finding out about the setting of stories. Focusing on the different elements that make up a story Exploring rhyming words and word play to make jokes and riddles Focusing on correct and varied punctuation in a sentence.       ·         Continuing weekly guided reading sessions.       ·         Continuing daily spelling and grammar practice.

Maths We will be: Looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and using and applying the different strategies appropriate for the bigger numbers Practising our times tables: 2x, 5x and 10x facts to be recalled automatically Investigating money Learning the units of measurment of capacity Learning 3 D and 2D shapes Problem solving so that the children can use and apply all the concepts they have been learning Working on our Maths targets in our Target Time.

Science We will be: Finding out about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Conducting our own investigations.

Art & DT We will be: Looking at work by Kandinsky and Picasso. Creating our own pieces of work in the style of these artists.

Music Responding to music and creating our own interpretations.

History Not this half term.

Geography We will be: Looking at features of urban and rural landscapes Making our own landscape

PE We will be: Learning new gymnastic skills. Applying our skills to the apparatus. Making sequences of movement.

RE We will be: Looking at some elements of Islam Looking at the importance of prayer.

Computing We will be: Practising our keyboard skills with a wide range of activities. Continuing to use Scratch

PSHE We will be: ·       Thinking about our goals and aspirations. ·       Thinking about the barriers to our learning.

Some silly reading!

To kick start our topic of SOMETHING SILLY this term we enjoyed reading lots of funny books and sharing them with our friends.  We also tried saying some tongue twisters -- getting our tongues in lots of twists and having lots of laughs at the same time.
