Space is amazing!

Look at this awesome picture Tim Peake took today from the International Space Station.  You can see the UK, France and Belgium.  Can you find where you think Shaftesbury might be with your grown up?

Which is your favourite Silly Story?

We had fun today, talking about, and deciding upon, our favourite of a choice of Silly Stories.

First, we used tally marks to record the results. Then, we were able to use this information to create a block graph. We had to think carefully about the scale on the 'Number of Children' axis.

In Walnut class, we then made a big version of the block graph and answered questions about the data we had collected. It is clear to see that the most popular book here is The Queen's Knickers!

Brilliant Book Reviews!

We had a lovely time sharing our book reviews of Horton Hears a Who!

It was really interesting hearing other people's opinions about the same book.

Urban or Rural?

We went on a walk today to explore our surroundings, and decide whether they were Urban or Rural.

We talked about the features that we could see.

Why are there so many businesses near to the school? Would there be as many in a Rural setting?

There was so much to talk about when we got back!

Thank you SO much to Miss Luffman and Mr Lavis who walked with us and kept us safe.

Will we EVER use our times tables?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/z26n34j

We have been thinking quite a bit about when and how we might need to use multiplication in every day life. Maybe we could end up working as a model builder in Legoland!

Do you know the data?

Later on this week, we are going to be looking at how to create a block graph. We will be exploring the data to find out answers to a range of questions.

Why not have a look at this link, and explore how to make your own graph and see what you know!

Great team work

Ash Class had a great day working as a team on both their Picasso art work where we decided to make a huge Picasso mural with different parts of our portrait work. They worked independently as a group to create a new art work. During our work on book reviews we put together our ideas to make a class book review and listened carefully everyone's opinions on Horton Hears a Who. We will then work on our own book reviews later on in the week.

Taking some time out

We had a lovely time at the end of the day practising mindfulness. We practised some breathing exercises and tried out some calming yoga poses.

Book Reviews

This week we are thinking about giving our opinion when writing a book review. We had a practice today and wrote a class review of Horton Hears A Who. We were not allowed to use the words good and bad- we came up with some much more adventurous words for our synonyms pick and mix.

Picasso

Some fantastic self portraits in the style of Picasso today. Can you remember what cubism is?

We used mirrors so we could observe the different features of our face really clearly and then try to draw them exactly for our self-portrait.

What a lovely calm and peaceful classroom.

What can you remember about this portrait, The Weeping Woman?
