What happened next?

The Persians were trapped by the clever Athenians and those still alive retreated to their boats.

They decided to sail round to Athens and try and attck from there..... BUT the Athenians worked out their plan and had to get a message to Athens.

So they sent Phideppedes, who was already exhausted, and when he arrived with the news, he collapsed and died!

                                      

They were able to make the Persians retreat....... they had won! Victory to the Athenians!
