What does a fire need to burn?

Today Walnut investigated what a fire needs to burn!  Mrs Turner lit a candle.  We watched the flame burn and then predicted what would happen if she put a jar over the top.

When she did this, the flame went out!  We discovered that if you take the oxygen (in the air) away then the fire cannot burn.

We found out that a fire needs three things to burn: the fire triangle!  It needs oxygen, fuel and heat.  If you take one of these away, then the fire will go out.
This helped us to realise why the Great Fire of London burned for so long and spread so far.
