This Half Term's Learning

Our topic for this half term is Fire and Ice:
English
We will be:
  •            Creating fact files about the Great Fire of London.
  •           Writing Fire of London diaries.
  •           Writing to give an opinion.
  •            Focusing on how to structure a sentence.
  •          Learning lots of lovely new words.
  •          Continuing regular handwriting practice.
  •           Taking part in guided reading activities.

Maths
We will be:
  • Practising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
  • Finding out about simple fractions and how to write them.
  • Beginning to learn that division is 'sharing'.
  • Measuring accurately with a centimetre ruler.
  • Finding out about coin values and how to use money.
  • Discovering co-ordinates.
  • Continuing to practise addition and subtraction.
Science
We will be:
  • Exploring how materials can change with heat and cold.
  • Finding out about different states.

Art & DT
We will be:
  • Making fireworks pictures.
  • Designing our own tea light holders.
  • Exploring clay.
  • Making Christmas crafts!

Music
We will be:
  • Listening to and responding to music
  • Starting to recognise simple musical notation.
  • Practising singing together for our festive performance.

History
We will be:
  • Finding out all about the Great Fire of London, why it was significant and what impact it has had on our lives today.
  • Finding out about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.

Geography
We will be finding out about what it is like in hot places and in polar regions.

PE
We will be:
  • Devising and performing our own dances

RE
We will be:
·         Thinking about why God gave Jesus to the world.
·         Looking at Bible stories about love.
·         Telling the Christmas story.
Computing
  • Using ICT to help us with research.
  • Continuing to practise programming using Scratch.
PSHE
We will be:
·       Learning about fire safety with a visit from the fire service.
·       Thinking about how our behaviour can affect others.
